Let's talk wellness and health.
Does Wellness Mean Health?
Does wellness mean being healthy?
In a sense, yes, but it does not just refer to being physically healthy. The dictionary definition of wellness is " the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort".
So, wellness is a positive goal that we have to consciously put effort into in order to achieve.
Think of it Like a Recipe
If you think it like a recipe, the ingredients all need to go together cohesively to make up the dish, which is you and your overall wellness.
So what are the components of the dish? According to the National Institute of Wellness, the six elements are physical, mental (intellectual), emotional, spiritual, social, and occupational wellness.
So what is making up most of your dish? Do you feel like some ingredients are taking over, or even lacking? What areas do you need to work on the most?
True Wellness Means Balance
Wellness is a holistic sense of finding complete balance in all six aspects, not just health. As you know, health is definitely influenced by things that are not outwardly. If you're stressed out over a deadline at work, feeling isolated from your friends, or are on a spiritual fast, these are all things that will take some effect on your body and health.
Our goal is to try our best to find balance in our lives, dedicating time to each piece so we can be whole.
Seek Help if You Are Struggling
We all need help growing at times. If you are being challenged in one of the six areas and wish to achieve balance, reach out for help. Don't be afraid to talk to family or friends who might have advice or insight to what you're going through because they know you well.
If you need something more than that, seek out professional advice from your health coach, personal trainer, teacher, pastor, or therapist to gain an objective and experienced insight that will help you to grow.
Wellness is Dynamic
Wellness is a process that is always growing or changing depending on what we put into it. We have to constantly adjust and put effort into achieving it.
So the question is, do you value your dish enough to put in the best ingredients?
Wellness is the key to happiness. Take care of your body and it will take care of you, I've always lived by that.
